HTS is crucial to International Traders.  Significant revisions will have a major effect on your business!

Understand the hierarchy of classification using the General Rules of Interpretation

This workshop focuses on how the Harmonized System is structured, how it works, and how to apply that knowledge to properly classify goods.  We’ll take you step-by-step through the General Rules of Interpretation that govern how the hierarchy of classification is applied to arrive at the correct commodity code.  Read our White Paper entitled "Rules for using the Harmonized System"and learn how to properly classify your merchandise under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.

Benefits of Attending

A thorough knowledge of the Harmonized System is essential for anyone involved in global trade.  Proper classification under the Harmonized Tariff Schedules is a regulatory requirement under the Customs Modernization Act to evidence informed compliance and the exercise of reasonable care.

If you are involved in trade with Canada and Mexico under the NAFTA or recent trade agreements with Chile, Singapore, and Australia; and the Central America-Dominican Republic you should attend. Proper classification is absolutely critical to establishing the eligibility of goods for preferential tariff treatment. Your company can benefit from the competitive advantages of NAFTA eligible goods determined only by proper classification.

Proper classification can affect the duty paid on imported merchandise – why pay more then necessary?

In Customs audits or compliance assessments, officials will review and assess the classification process and decisions.

Who Should Attend

This course is a basic primer for those new to importing, exporting, or the classification process.

It is also an excellent refresher for active practitioners, who want to hone and refine their skills.  Personnel involved in qualifying goods for eligibility under the NAFTA and other FTAs will find this program of significant value.  Anyone new to a position in which classifications were previously determined will want to attend to ensure their accuracy.
